The benefits of competition
The Queensland Government has introduced retail competition to small energy customers for a number of reasons. Competition is expected to:
- give customers the power to choose their energy retailer
- deliver more competitive prices and new service offerings for small customers
- create more efficient electricity and gas markets
- stimulate greater investment in, and development of, Queensland's electricity and gas industries
- meet Queensland's responsibilities under National Competition Policy.
Since 1998, the Queensland Government has gradually introduced competition to the electricity and gas markets, starting with major industrial customers and working towards the largest market segment - householders and small businesses.
