Energy retailers - not the Government - will decide which areas they will target.

While the whole of Queensland has been opened up for retail competition, most of the competition is expected to occur in the south-east of the State initially. So if you live outside this area - even if you live in a big regional city - you may not get a competitive retail offer in the short term. This is because the south-east corner has the largest, most commercially-attractive market for energy retailers. But this may change with time, as retailers become established in the Queensland market.

If you don't get a competitive retail offer, the good news is you don't have to change anything. The Queensland Government will continue to subsidise your electricity prices to make sure you have an affordable electricity supply. Ergon Energy will remain as your retailer and will supply your electricity at the Government-set price - easy!
