What happens if your retailer goes out of business?

While it is not expected that retailers will go out of business, the Queensland Government has made sure your interests as a consumer are protected.

If your electricity retailer goes out of business your account will be automatically transferred to another retailer under arrangements set up by the Queensland Government.

Your electricity will not be disconnected, and if you are a small customer you will be charged electricity at the regulated price set by Government.

If your gas retailer goes out of business the Minister has the power to direct another retailer to sell you gas and make sure your supply is not interrupted.
