Tariff Schedule
The Queensland Government is committed to ensuring all Queenslanders have access to an affordable electricity supply, no matter where they live.
To achieve this, each year the Government sets regulated electricity prices, often referred to as uniform tariffs.
These standard prices are charged to all customers who are not on a market contract with a retailer.
As the State’s independent economic regulator, the Queensland Competition Authority (QCA) is responsible for calculating the index that decides the electricity tariffs.
Following a period of consultation, the QCA published its final calculation of the index on 30 May 2008. The QCA’s final calculation is available at www.qca.org.au.
The index used by the QCA to calculate the uniform electricity tariffs is the new Benchmark Retail Cost Index. This index replaced the Consumer Price Index which was previously used to calculate the tariffs. The new index is directly linked to the costs of electricity supply, rather than prices in the economy as a whole.
Retailers may offer customers a lower price than the standard regulated price, or other benefits.
