Customer transfers

Switching to another retailer

Once you decide to switch to another retailer, your current gas retailer is responsible for making sure the customer transfer happens. You don't need to do anything. Usually the transfer will occur from the date of the next scheduled meter read.

Will my gas be cut off when I change retailers?

No. Your gas supply should not be interrupted. The customer transfer will occur once a final meter reading is done, a final account is issued and your old account is closed. Your new gas retailer will set up a new account, and bill you from the date of your final meter reading, without any interruption to your gas supply.

Will I have to install a new gas meter if I change retailers?

No.

What's a MIRN?

A meter installation reference number or MIRN is a unique number on each gas meter connected to your home or business. This number is required as the identifier for your gas connection and will appear on your gas bill. If you change retailers, they will need your MIRN to assist with the transfer of responsibility for your gas account.

Who will read my gas meter?

Your natural gas distributor will read your gas meter. Your meter reading will then be used by your retailer for billing.
